Remy Hair has an important place in the hair extension industry, attracting many consumers with its impeccable value for money, natural appeal and long-lasting shine. But what exactly is Remy Hair and how is it different from its counterparts? Here's our step-by-step guide to unraveling the mystery of Remy Hair
Do you know what Remy hair really means(Sometimes spelled Remi)?
The term “Remy”isn't just a fancy name. It comes from a French hairstylist named “Remy”, Remy developed an innovative method of hair collection and processing that preserved the hair's natural cuticle layer.
Nowadays, Remy Hair is often used in marketing and selling purposes, means the cuticles (the outer layer of the hair) are not stripped and remain aligned the same direction, ensures the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky, and completely tangle-free throughout its lifetime.
Due to the tedious processing it has to go through, its cuticle is not 100% intact, but we are able to do it in such a way that it retains more than 90% of its integrity and it still looks very natural. So it will be more cost effective than 100% intact Virgin Hair.
REMY hair also feels great after many washes. Most of our clients use it for close to a year and the hair still looks great.
Non-Remy Hair
It is the hair that gathered from multiple sources, leading to inconsistent hair quality,
cuticle layer stripped or damaged, causing roughness, tangles, and dullness, limited styling options,
making it difficult to color or heat style, shorter lifespan, typically lasting only a few months.
Since the cuticle is oriented in a chaotic way, a high concentration of acid is used in the treatment process. The end result is hair with very low moisture that looks like dry straw.
At the same time it's cuticle can be stripped by over-processing and the hair is thrown together, leading to tangles. To disguise this, some manufacturers use a lot of silicone to make the hair look shiny and healthy, but what you need to know is that as soon as you wash it, the silicone comes off and the hair snaps back into a mess. Some stores will even make the ridiculous guarantee that the hair is shiny and intact until you shampoo it.
Keep in mind that Non Remy hair is of poor quality and once the outer coating peels off, the hair loses its shine and becomes dull!
The difference between Virgin hair, Remy hair and Non-remy hair
At the next, let's get up to speed on the difference between virgin, Remy, and non-Remy hair.
Types of natural human hair
Virgin, Remy, and non-Remy hair are all 100% human hair, but they are far from the same.
•Virgin hair: Untreated and unprocessed collected from single donor, that's never been chemically-treated or dyed, retaining its natural color and texture, can be dyed or treated hair. Top quality and the most expensive.
•Remy hair: Lightly processed to remove impurities and align cuticles to the same direction, enhancing shine and manageability, it also can be dyed or treated hair. High-quality and good compromise between quality and price
•Non-Remy hair: Any hair from a human scalp — meaning it can come from the floor of a hair salon, a brush, or even a corpse. The most affordable option and poor quality
How to choose between them?
Here are the main things to consider when choosing a hair type:
Feature | Virgin Hair | Remy Hair | Non-Remy Hair |
---|---|---|---|
Cut From |
1 donor unprocessed. |
Different donors Slightly processed to be softer and silkier. |
Different donor, has been dyed or curled in an acid bath. |
Cuticle |
Cuticle Intact |
90% Cuticle |
Cuticle Damaged |
Processing | None | Minimal Chemical | coloring, perming |
Shine & Softness | Highest | High | Lower |
Coloring & Styling | Highest | Good | Limited |
Lifespan | 1 - 2 Years | 6 - 10 Months | 0 - 6 Months |
Price | Highest | Mid-range | Lowest |
Consider these when choosing:
By budget: Virgin hair is the best quality and most expensive, Remy hair is the most cost effective and non-Remy hair is the cheapest.
By styling needs: If you color or change your style often, it is recommended that you choose virgin hair or Remy hair.
For longevity: virgin hair and Remy hair last longer than non-Remy hair.
We hope this will helps!
